Aroma: fresh, crisp

What’s the Different Between Japanese Peppermint and Regular Peppermint?

Both Peppermint and Japanese Peppermint essential oils are of the same Mentha genus, but they’re different species. Peppermint is Mentha piperita, while Japanese Peppermint is Mentha canadensis. Japanese Peppermint and Peppermint are similar in chemistry. Menthol and menthone are the primary chemical constituents in both essential oils, but they contain slightly different profiles. Japanese Peppermint has a uniquely high concentration of menthol.

What’s Japanese Peppermint Good For?

Japanese Peppermint can be used in the same ways as Peppermint essential oil: aromatically, topically, and internally. Because of its high menthol content, Japanese Peppermint is especially cooling when applied topically, which creates a comforting and soothing effect. Consider diluting with a carrier oil for those with sensitive skin.

Pure Japanese Peppermint can be taken internally. In addition to its delicious flavor, it can promote a sense of clear airways when ingested.* When diffused, it creates a fresh, stimulating environment.
